Diamond Certification

Why Certified?

A diamond certificate is a gemmological grading report. This grading report provides a detailed account of the diamond’s characteristics. There are many aspects that need to be assessed when certifying a diamond, the characteristics of most interest are; the four Cs the cut, colour, clarity and carat.the polish, symmetry, fluorescence andd girdle.

It is not an easy task to certify a diamond, many diamonds are certified by independent gemmological laboratories, each gemmologist is highly trained and experienced in their field. There are many gemmological laboratories in many countries. The most reputable of the gemmological laboratories are the GIA (Gemmological Institute of America), IGI (International Gemmological Institute), or AGSL (American Gemmological Society Laboratories), or EGL (European Gemmological Laboratory). JP Diamonds use only the most respected grading houses for their diamonds. All of these institutes including the GIA, IGI and the AGSL are known for their consistency, stringency and impartiality when grading diamonds.

Having the exact qualities of a diamond is critical to its value. A diamond improperly graded by only the slightest margin could dramatically affect its perceived value. Often a conflict of interest may exist if someone grades the diamond that may serve to gain or lose depending upon the outcome of the examination. It is important that an independent gemmological laboratory grade your diamond. Such a laboratory should be internationally recognised for the highest standards and institutional ethics. The Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) and the American Gem Society (AGS) are internationally known and respected as premier research, education, and gemmological grading institutes. Below is an example of a GIA certificate.
